The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported that the combined revenue for October 2023 saw a substantial rise of $483,006,194, representing a 7.28% increase compared to the previous year. Slot machines have always been a popular form of entertainment in casinos, but the revenue generated from them in October 2023 saw a slight decrease compared to the previous year. The total revenue from slot machines amounted to $192,519,568, which represents a 3.28% decrease from the $199,049,045 generated in October 2022. Despite the decline in revenue, it is important to note that the number of slot machines in operation decreased as well, with 24,794 machines in operation in October 2023 compared to 25,497 in October 2022. The tax revenue collected from slot machines in October 2023 was $97,618,945.

Retail table games also contributed to the overall revenue growth in Pennsylvania’s gaming industry. In October 2023, the revenue from retail table games reached $81,458,654, marking a 2.02% increase compared to the $79,848,316 generated in October 2022. The tax revenue generated from table games play during October 2023 amounted to $13,306,434.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) has been a rapidly growing segment of the gaming industry, and October 2023 witnessed a substantial increase in revenue from this sector. The monthly gross revenue from iGaming reached $154,818,943, which is a remarkable 24.34% increase from the $124,507,915 generated in October 2022. The tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during October 2023 totalled $66,484,708.

Sports wagering has become increasingly popular in Pennsylvania, and October 2023 marked a significant milestone in terms of revenue. The total revenue from sports wagering reached a new monthly record of $829,002,595, surpassing the previous high of $797,124,732 in October 2022. This represents a 4% increase in revenue. The taxable revenue figure for October 2023 was $48,150,055, which is 18.85% higher than the taxable revenue of $40,514,020 in October 2022. The tax revenue generated from sports wagering during October 2023 was $17,334,020.

Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) have gained popularity in Pennsylvania, providing gaming opportunities at qualified truck stop establishments. However, the adjusted revenue from VGTs saw a slight decrease in October 2023 compared to the previous year. The total adjusted revenue from VGTs was $3,406,170, which represents a 3.99% decrease from the $3,547,774 generated in October 2022. It is worth noting that the number of VGT Terminal Operators increased, with 71 qualified truck stop establishments operating the maximum permitted five machines in October 2023, compared to 67 establishments in October 2022. The tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in October 2023 amounted to $1,771,208.

While most segments of the gaming industry experienced growth, fantasy contests saw a decrease in revenue in October 2023. The revenue from fantasy contests amounted to $2,652,804, which represents a 4.3% decrease from the $2,771,894 generated in the same period the previous year. The tax revenue collected from fantasy contests in October 2023 was $397,921.
