Most of these bets were made online, highlighting the profitable and exciting market that Louisiana’s sports betting scene has become for both bettors and the state.

October was a ground breaking month for Louisiana’s sports betting industry, with a total of $308.6 million wagered. This surge in activity propelled the state to new heights, surpassing previous records and generating $43.3 million in revenue. Louisiana has established itself as a major player in the sports betting market.

Online platforms were the preferred choice for bettors, with $786.4 million in wagers placed digitally. This dominance of online betting accounted for a significant portion of the total handle, which reached $877.4 million in the four months leading up to October. Online platforms have attracted Louisiana’s avid sports bettors with their convenience and accessibility, fueling the industry’s growth.

Football was the favorite sport among bettors, contributing a substantial portion of the revenue. The game brought in $7.3 million in online revenue and $249,242 in retail revenue. Both online and brick-and-mortar sportsbooks profited from football betting. Baseball also made a solid contribution, generating $3.3 million in retail revenue and $437,224 in the retail sector. The popularity of these sports showcases the passion and excitement that sports betting brings to Louisiana.

The online market continued to outshine its retail counterpart, with online gross revenue reaching $40.1 million in October. Retail revenue accounted for $12.6 million of the adjusted revenue. The growing preference for digital betting platforms highlights the convenience and user-friendly nature of online wagering.

Louisiana’s handle exceeded expectations, surpassing the previous record set in January 2023. The remarkable increase of 20.8% from October 2022’s handle of $255.5 million highlights the industry’s rapid growth. Compared to September 2023, which saw a handle of $280.1 million, October’s numbers increased by 10.2%. The surge in betting activity translated into a significant revenue growth of 63.5% year-on-year. The total market revenue reached an all-time high of $43.3 million, narrowly surpassing the previous record set in September.

While online bets dominated the market, retail wagers still accounted for a substantial portion of the total handle, reaching $91 million. This balanced participation between online and retail betting showcases the appeal of both options to Louisiana’s sports bettors. Whether they prefer the convenience of online platforms or the atmosphere of a physical sportsbook, Louisiana’s bettors have embraced sports wagering.

The adjusted revenue for this period reached $118.9 million, with online revenue contributing $106 million. These figures highlight the profitability of the online market and its role in driving the state’s record-breaking success. The online sector continues to attract bettors and generate substantial revenue for Louisiana.
