PAGCOR Achieves Record Score in Governance Recognition

Share

With an exceptional score of 99.46% in the yearly Performance Evaluation System (PES) for 2022, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has received a commendation from the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG). During the first year under Alejandro H. Tengco’s leadership as Chairman and CEO, PAGCOR has achieved one of its greatest scores ever with this award.

Remarkable Progress under New Leadership

With President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointing Chairman Tengco as its leader in August 2022, PAGCOR has made tremendous strides, as seen by its astounding 99.46% score. This is higher than the scores from 2020 and 2021, which are 91.38% and 98.08%, respectively. The honor, which was given out on November 20, 2023, during the GOCC Governance Awards Ceremony, reiterates PAGCOR’s dedication to quality.

Atty. Juanito L. Sañosa, the COO and President of PAGCOR, acknowledged the award and stressed its importance in placing PAGCOR among the nation’s best-performing GOCCs. Attorney Sañosa emphasized that the acknowledgment is proof of their hard work and commitment to going above and beyond previous achievements in the service of the country.

The PES award is a testament to PAGCOR’s steadfast dedication to efficiency and accountability; the company received flawless marks in important areas including Nation-Building Efforts, Increased Contribution to National Government Coffers, and Gross Gaming Revenue of the Industry.

Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin recognized the Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) for their significant contributions to the country during the awards event. In 2023, GOCCs—PAGCOR among them—contributed Php5 billion in dividends to assist essential government initiatives in the areas of infrastructure, health, education, and other fields.

GCG Commissioner Atty. Brian Keith F. Hosaka called on all GOCCs to work together in a statement, presenting the industry as a catalyst for effective and efficient advancement for Filipinos. Twelve additional GOCCs, including PAGCOR, were recognized for their excellent Corporate Governance Scorecard (CGS) scores in 2022; three of them were inducted into the esteemed CGS Hall of Fame.
