Miller County Commission Unanimously Supports Lake of the Ozarks Casino Project

Share

The Miller County Commission has unanimously endorsed the planned Lake of the Ozarks casino project, which is a significant milestone. The plan, spearheaded by Osage River Gaming and Convention (ORGC) and Bally’s Corporation, seeks to establish a full entertainment complex in the area. In order to avoid the General Assembly and aim for the statewide vote in November 2024, ORGC is collecting signatures for a ballot initiative; the commission’s backing is vital to this effort.

Many were taken aback when former presiding commissioner Tom Wright, who had previously expressed caution over the casino idea, acknowledged the possible advantages during a public comment period. Wright’s acknowledgment adds complexity to the current discussion over the casino’s possible effects on the economy, even if it does not entirely coincide with the significant economic impact highlighted by advocates.

Strategic Location and Regulatory Compliance

ORGC intends to use a piece of the 90-acre Eagles’ Landing Phase 4 land to locate the casino next to the Osage River Bridge. The project’s deviation from the conventional riverboat casino format is one of its most important features. In accordance with Missouri law, the ORGC is flexible, permitting the construction of casinos on the shoreline as long as certain requirements are satisfied. The site that was selected complies with the Osage River floodplain’s 1,000-foot restriction and is within the bounds of the law.

Beyond only offering games, the casino concept includes a detailed plan for the Eagles’ Landing Phase 4 land. The casino facility will take up around 20 acres, with the remaining area reserved for a hotel, conference center, restaurants, and retail establishments. This strategy is in line with the changing trends in casino entertainment and represents a shift from the conventional riverboat casino concept.

It is imperative to acknowledge that the support provided by ORGC is not affiliated with the endeavors of Osage Nation Gaming group, which is now seeking license for a separate casino in Lake Ozark. The Osage Nation Gaming company persists in its pursuit despite the city’s opposition, voicing apprehensions on possible deficiencies in state legislation and levies regarding its intended casino.

The local community actively participates in conversations, weighing the possible benefits and drawbacks of these opposing casino ideas for the gorgeous Lake of the Ozarks region, while both gaming organizations negotiate the complicated regulatory process. In the upcoming months, there will be significant developments in the ongoing story.
