Yes, the #girlfriendeffect — i.e., the positive influence a new girlfriend can have on their partner. The hashtag has amassed more than 12 million views on TikTok.

Of course, when it comes to the #girlfriendeffect for the purposes of sports betting, there’s only one girlfriend whose effect needs studying — Taylor Swift and her effect on her beau, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

And according to data compiled by Betway, the #girlfriendeffect is real and spectacular when it comes to Kelce’s on-field performance.

This year, when Taylor Swift didn’t attend Kelce’s games, he averaged 50 yards receiving per game. When Swift was live and in-person, his per-game performance jumped to 79 yards. Clearly, Kelce is much better at finding the blank space on the field with Swift watching.

Along with the yardage came the receptions. Without Swift in attendance, Kelce averaged six catches per game. When Swift was there, he averaged seven per game. Considering the two didn’t start dating until around Week 4, it was a cruel summer for Kelce until Swift entered his life.

On the scoring front, somewhat surprisingly, Kelce was more likely to catch a touchdown pass without Swift in attendance (.5 a game with her there, .4 without). Wonder if this causes any bad blood between them.

Of course, Betway has props on all these markets for the Super Bowl. Kelce’s yardage prop is set at 72.5 at -115 on either side; his reception prop is at 6.5 at -166 on the over, +130 on the under; and his anytime touchdown prop is set at -120. 

One caveat: It’s currently unknown if Swift will make it to Vegas in time for the big game. She will be in Tokyo the day before for a concert, and according to an Athletic article, landing (as in the actual touching down of wheels, not the securing of a jet) a private plane in Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday has quickly become a logistical nightmare.

Can Kelce overcome this unknown? Can he shake it off? We shall see.
