Anthony Edwards Knows His Limits At The Blackjack Table

In a new Vanity Fair profile carrying the headline, “Is Anthony Edwards the Next Face of the NBA?” it is revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves star has one true vice: blackjack.

“Edwards doesn’t drink, but he indulges another vice at a casino not far from his home. There, he can be found at the blackjack table, although typically only for a couple hours at a time,” the article reads. “Edwards might be competitive, but not enough to chase his losses. ‘I go in there with 10 to 20k, and if they take that, I’m gone,’ he says.”

Know your limits, right? And while Edwards’ limit might seem like a ton of loot to the average card shark, remember that he has a contract extension kicking in next year that could pay him upwards of $50 million per annum. So whether he’s practicing responsible gambling by walking away after dropping $20K is in the eye of the beholder.

Mystic Lake or Little Six?

Throughout the article, Edwards is compared to Michael Jordan. The resemblance of their games is clear to anyone who’s ever watched the two men play, but their shared passions for gambling and wearing Chicago White Sox ball caps really seal the deal. (As you’ll recall, Jordan toiled in the White Sox farm system while on sabbatical from the Bulls.)

According to Vanity Fair, the first time Edwards and Jordan met was shortly before the former was drafted into the NBA.

“I was in the gym working out, and we got a call that MJ was gonna pull up,” Edwards told the magazine. “I’m like, MJ who? They like, Shit, Michael Jordan gonna pull up. I’m like, Bet. He walks in there. That was crazy. I ain’t gonna lie. … He was just like, ‘In the post, you using your upper body too much. Use more of your butt.’”

Bet, indeed. And for those venturing to guess where Edwards sits when he’s at home, two likely prospects emerge. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community owns a pair of casinos within roughly a mile of each other in the tony Minneapolis suburb of Prior Lake. The first is the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, a destination of sorts. The latter is Little Six Casino, which appears to be more of a locals joint.

Our money is on the Ant Man gracing the green felt at Little Six — and always splitting tens.
