As the Curaçao gaming license undergoes significant changes, the iGaming industry is keenly observing the developments. Known for being a preferred choice for launching new online casinos and sportsbooks, the regulations in Curaçao are transitioning towards a new phase. Slotegrator, a key player in the iGaming industry, sheds light on the evolving situation, aiming for clarity by September 2024.

The landscape of Curaçao’s gambling regulations remains dynamic, with potential shifts on the horizon. Here are the crucial updates:

  • The National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK) was introduced to parliament in December 2023 and is currently under review. Curaçao’s Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania, emphasized the importance of informed debate among parliament members on January 11. He cautioned against misinformation, specifying that official updates about licensing regulations are solely provided through the Curaçao Gaming Control Board or the Ministry of Finance’s official channels. Silvania also noted the ongoing license application process under the NOOGH, which will conclude by March 31, 2024. Furthermore, the GCB has updated all gaming licenses, with renewals set until January 2025.
  • A new digital seal for Curaçao-licensed online casinos was launched on January 1, 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Finance. This initiative, crafted by the Gambling Control Board (GCB), aims to authenticate licensed operators and deter misrepresentation. The seal is available exclusively to operators who have completed the GCB’s registration process.
  • February 2024 marked a milestone with the issuance of the first direct license by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board to White Star, part of the Rhino Entertainment Group, for its CasinoDays platform.
  • For existing sublicense holders, the transition to the new regulatory framework appears seamless. They are anticipated to receive a 12-month transitional license, allowing them to align with the updated regulations.

Curaçao’s reputation as a pioneering iGaming jurisdiction since 1996 remains intact amidst these changes. The benefits of holding a Curaçao gaming license include enhanced security, credibility, and a proven reputation within the iGaming community. These advantages underscore the license’s role in promoting a transparent and fair gaming industry.

For operators navigating the new licensing landscape, Slotegrator offers jurisdictional and legal advisory services. This support allows businesses to focus on critical areas like marketing and player engagement without the complexities of license application processes.
