Constitution Hill is one of the best hurdlers in the world of horse racing and many fans were looking forward to seeing him line up in next month’s Champion Hurdle. The six-year-old’s participation at the Cheltenham Festival is now in doubt following a poor workout on Tuesday morning at Kempton Park. He significantly trailed the other runners in videos circulating on social media:

The horse was previously an odds-on favorite to defend his title in the Champion Hurdle, but now many sportsbooks have temporarily suspended markets following the workout and replaced Constitution Hill with State Man at the top of the betting.

Nicky Henderson revealed that the horse has undergone testing to see what’s happening and that he isn’t completely ruled out of the festival. The renowned trainer admitted that he is concerned, and the next step is to assess the results of a laboratory test.

Henderson hopes a week’s course of antibiotics will do the trick for mucus in the lungs and he noted that the horse has done plenty of work before this week to be ready for the Champion Hurdle.
