Genting Malaysia Closes Two Of Its Casinos
Genting Malaysia has announced that effective from February 28, 2024, two of the three casinos at Genting Highlands will be permanently closed down.
In a brief statement on the Resorts World Genting (RWG) website, Genting Malaysia Bhd announced the closure of Genting Casino 1 (Circus Palace) and Genting Casino 2 (Hollywood). The closure of these two gaming zones comes as a surprise to many gamblers who have frequented these establishments for decades. The statement did not provide any specific reasons for the closure, leaving room for speculation.
To ensure a smooth transition for its patrons, the resort has organized a shuttle service to the newer and more modern SkyCasino, located at SkyAvenue. This alternative gaming venue offers a wide range of games and amenities, providing a seamless continuation of the gaming experience for loyal customers.
While the closure of these two casinos may come as a shock to some, industry insiders have noted a decline in patronage in recent years. The once bustling gaming hubs had been facing dwindling visitor numbers, making it financially unsustainable to continue their operations. This decline in patronage can be attributed to various factors, including changing consumer preferences, increased competition, and the rise of online gambling platforms.
The ultra-modern SkyCasino, which opened its doors in 2017, likely played a significant role in diverting customers away from the older gaming zones. With its sleek design, extensive game selection, and enchanting forest-themed ambiance, SkyCasino quickly became a favourite among the new generation of gaming enthusiasts.
Genting Malaysia Bhd, the parent company of the affected casinos, owns and operates Resorts World Genting, a premier integrated resort destination in Malaysia. With approximately 10,500 rooms across seven hotels, Resorts World Genting has been a key player in the hospitality and entertainment industry. The closure of the two casinos signifies a strategic move by Genting Malaysia to streamline its operations and adapt to the changing market dynamics.
Despite the closure of these gaming zones, Genting Malaysia continues to operate SkyCasino, which now stands as the sole gaming venue at Genting Highlands. The company aims to leverage the modern facilities and extensive game offerings at SkyCasino to attract and retain customers, ensuring a vibrant future for the resort the company said.
