North Carolina Online Sports Betting Market Active In First 48 Hours

More than 5.3 million sports betting geolocation checks were reported in North Carolina as of noon Wednesday, according to data from GeoComply. Eight North Carolina betting apps went live Monday at noon, and nearly 370,000 active North Carolina sports betting accounts recorded geolocation checks in the first 48 hours following the launch.

For comparison, Virginia’s sports betting market saw just 2 million geolocation checks across 134,000 active accounts during the same time period. Sports betting apps went live in Virginia in 2021.

GeoComply also reported that 6,175 sports betting accounts within South Carolina accessed North Carolina’s legal betting apps. Those people were blocked from wagering on the apps in South Carolina, which does not allow for legal online sports wagering.
