Wynn Resorts Unveils Full Plan For Its Proposed New York Casino

Another New York casino plan was fully unveiled this week, as Wynn Resorts, in tandem with Related Companies/Oxford Properties Group, showed off its massive plan to build out the entire western half of Hudson Yards in midtown Manhattan.

Last month, the companies filed their plans with the city, and on Wednesday, the group shared more details. Hudson Yards West will provide 35,000 union construction jobs, 5,000 permanent careers at the casino/resort, publicly accessible open space, affordable housing, a school, and more. Additional details, including a community benefits program, security program, and traffic mitigation plan, will be announced as Wynn and Related submit their application to the New York State Gaming Facility Location Board and proceed through the environmental review process.

“Hudson Yards has already proven to be an unparalleled catalyst for the New York economy, first through tens of thousands of construction jobs and now as home to the world’s leading companies, retail and housing. Moving forward with the second phase of development presents an incredible opportunity to double the impact and provide generational benefits to the State, City, and especially our West Side neighbors,” Jeff T. Blau, CEO of Related Companies, said in a press release. “We look forward to completing our vision for Hudson Yards in partnership with Wynn Resorts and revealing full project plans as part of our application to New York State.”

Hudson Yards West will be developed above the railyard between West 30th and West 33rd Streets and 11th and 12th Avenues. It will include 5.6-acres of publicly accessible open space with access to the Javits Center and nearby parks and a world-class gaming resort with hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, lounges, a spa, and a concierge team. Additionally, it will feature a residential building with affordable housing, Class AA Commercial Office Space, a public school with 750 seats, a community facility, and a daycare center.

Historic investment on the West Side

“As the leading designer, developer, and operator of premium gaming resorts in the world, Wynn New York City will attract luxury and aspirational travelers to our destination resort in Hudson Yards,” said Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts. “Wynn guests consistently spend more when they travel. That results in greater tax revenues for the City and State and more spend in the local community, all with less foot traffic than might be required at other resorts.”

The project represents the single largest investment ever in the local communities of Chelsea, Hudson Yards, Hell’s Kitchen, and the entire West Side, according to the release.

The project is one of 11 expected bids for three downstate casino licenses. There is no timetable as to when the New York State Gaming Commission will issue the licenses.
