Pennsylvania Online Casino Revenue Reaches Record $191 Million For March

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported a record $191.1 million in gross internet casino revenue for March on Wednesday, the third time in four months it reached an all-time high.

Overall, the Keystone State reported a record high of $554.6 million in gaming revenue, bettering the previous mark of $534.2 million set last December. Total year-over-year revenue was up 7.1%, with internet casino winnings up 29% from a then-record $148.2 million in March 2023.

Brick-and-mortar casino slot revenue inched 1.1% higher to $227.9 million, but winnings at table games slipped 0.8% to $85.2 million. Taxable revenue for sports betting declined 10% to $45.6 million. Video gaming terminal (VGT) revenue totaled $3.7 million, down 0.5% from 12 months prior, while the $1.1 million in fantasy sports contests represented a 21.1% decline.

The state reported $229.6 million in total gaming taxes prior to adjustments, with $115 million coming from retail slot play and another $14 million via table games. Internet casino gaming generated $82.1 million worth of receipts; sports wagering taxes totaled $16.4 million — VGTs $1.9 million, and fantasy sports the remaining $166,000.

Hollywood Casino again leads iGaming pack

After posting a state-record $77.3 million in revenue for February, Hollywood Casino had a slight falloff in March to $72.3 million when counting winnings from its in-house app, DraftKings, BetMGM, and ESPN BET. Revenue was 16% higher than March 2023, and the $2.73 billion in combined slots and table drop was also an all-time high for any Pennsylvania licensee.

Valley Forge, home to the FanDuel and Stardust internet casino platforms, crossed the $50 million revenue plateau for the first time. The $50.8 million in winnings represented a 59.8% increase from 12 months prior, and it also reported a sixth consecutive all-time high in monthly drop after accepting $1.75 billion in bets for March.

Online skins BetRivers and Borgata, housed under the Rivers Casino license based in Philadelphia, rounded out the podium spots for revenue with a combined record haul of $32.8 million. That was a 7.2% increase from March 2023 as it topped $30 million in winnings for the third consecutive March and fourth time overall.

Caesars Palace Online more than doubled its revenue from March 2023 to $10.4 million, an increase of 113.1% while setting a record for the second consecutive month. Its slot revenue of $7.8 million was 144.2% higher than 12 months prior, with drop totaling an all-time high of $167 million.

The $5.7 million in revenue for betPARX was up 0.6% compared to last year and was the last of the five licensees to post year-over-year gains. First-year platforms Golden Nugget and Bally’s combined for $8 million in revenue, with Golden Nugget accounting for $4.5 million of that total. Bally’s, which did set an all-time monthly high of nearly $3.6 million, also recorded a nine-figure drop for the first time at $106 million.

Of the three licensees to have year-over-year declines, Mount Airy had the biggest drop in terms of dollars: Its $4.3 million in winnings via online skin Stars Casino was down $874,000, while Mohegan Pennsylvania had a 30.8% dip to $1.1 million as Unibet plays out the string before its departure from the U.S. marketplace in the coming months.

Retail slot revenue slightly up, table revenue slightly down

Parx Casino paced the state’s 17 casinos in slot revenue with $34.3 million, though that total was down 2.4% from last year. Wind Creek strengthened its hold on second based on year-over-year comparisons, improving 9.8% to $27.4 million. Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, which trailed Wind Creek by only $38,270 last year, had a 1.3% increase to $25.2 million.

Mohegan Pennsylvania and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows were the only other venues to surpass $15 million in slot revenue, though both saw downturns compared to March 2023. Mohegan had a 1.3% falloff to $16.3 million, while Hollywood dipped 4.5% to $15 million.

Live! Casino in Philadelphia had the biggest increase of any venue with at least $10 million in slot revenue, bouncing 10.2% higher, while Harrah’s Philadelphia had the largest swing in the opposite direction, down 12.3% to slightly over $10 million.

Wind Creek and Parx were again the only two venues to reach eight figures in table games revenue, though Parx closed the gap slightly between them compared to March 2023. Wind Creek had a 2% rise to $20.4 million, while Parx ticked 4.3% higher to $18.6 million.

Live! in Philadelphia had a modest 3.5% bounce to $9.3 million, while the Rivers Casino venues rounded out the top five with a combined $16.3 million. The Philadelphia location had an 8.6% improvement to $8.9 million, while its Pittsburgh counterpart saw winnings dip 14% to $7.3 million. Overall, five casinos had total revenue of at least $20 million, with Parx pacing all operators with $52.9 million.
