Deion Sanders was the fifth overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, and sports betting odds suggest Sanders’ son, Shedeur, has a chance to earn a better draft spot in the 2025 NFL Draft.

DraftKings and FanDuel both list Sanders as the favorite to go No. 1 overall in next year’s draft, with DraftKings listing him at +150 and FanDuel giving Colorado’s signal caller +500 odds.

Sanders, who began his career at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado, threw for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions for the Buffaloes last season.

With a strong arm, a good feel for the game, and proven production at the Power 5 level, Sanders finds himself as a top prospect at the game’s most important position.

Eight of the last 10 No. 1 overall picks were quarterbacks, giving that position a major edge when it comes to holding the shortest odds to go No. 1. FanDuel lists Georgia’s Carson Beck and Texas’ Quinn Ewers as co-favorites with Sanders to be picked first, with all three quarterbacks holding +500 odds.

DraftKings and FanDuel have noticeable differences in the odds of a few other top quarterback prospects. Penn State’s Drew Allar holds +1200 odds at DraftKings, but he’s +2500 to be selected first at FanDuel. The same is true for Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart is also +1200 at DraftKings, but he’s +3000 at FanDuel.

If you’re betting on a quarterback to go No. 1, it’s worth line-shopping on different betting apps to find the best price. Not all betting apps offer 2025 NFL Draft odds, but FanDuel offers noticeably longer odds on several players when compared to DraftKings.

Cameron Ward, who transferred to Miami from Washington State this offseason, has +1500 odds at DraftKings and slightly longer odds of +1700 at FanDuel.

James Pearce Jr., a defensive lineman from Tennessee with elite athleticism and sack production (10 in 2023), has +900 odds at FanDuel and +1000 odds at DraftKings. He’s considered one of the top non-quarterbacks with a chance to be selected first overall.

Travis Hunter, a wide receiver/cornerback for Colorado, finds himself at +2000 on FanDuel and +2200 at DraftKings. Hunter has drawn comparisons to Deion Sanders for his ability to play on both sides of the ball.

Hunter holds +6500 odds on FanDuel to win the Heisman Trophy, slightly longer odds than Shedeur Sanders’ +4000.

Neither player appears in the top 15 in terms of odds to win the Heisman at FanDuel, in large part due to the team’s expected mediocrity. Typically, Heisman Trophy winners play on teams that are competing for a national title.

FanDuel gives Colorado +30000 odds to win the national championship, the same odds as Iowa State and SMU. While Colorado isn’t expected to be a national title contender in Year 2 of the Deion Sanders era, the Buffs boast a pair of elite NFL Draft prospects.
