Two years after legalization, still no in-person sports betting in Maine

It has been two years since in-person sports betting was signed into law in Maine, but there is still no sports betting at Maine’s two casinos or anywhere else in the state.

Online sports betting launched in the state in November, but there is still no word on when people can expect in-person sports betting to begin.

Sen. Joe Baldacci, D-Bangor, wrote to Milton Champion, the executive director of the Maine Gambling Control Unit, this week to question him about the stagnation. Champion oversees sports betting in Maine.

“It is both surprising and unacceptable that not a single retail operator has commenced operations,” Baldacci said in his letter.
