Las Vegas: $100 million redo of Mandalay Bay Convention Center finished

MGM Resorts International today announced it has completed a $100 million makeover of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The remake of the 2.1-million-square-foot meeting facility has been ongoing for the past 30 months.

“Our goal is to evolve alongside the meetings industry to meet the needs of the modern customer,” said the casino’s vice president for hotel sales, Ernest Stovall. “Based on invaluable insights from our customer advisory board, we crafted a space at Mandalay Bay that sets a new standard in excellence and reflects the future of modern meetings, events, and trade shows.”

The company stated that the remake boasted upgraded technology infrastructure, additional digital signage, and a redesign intended to complement the resort’s tropical-inspired theme. The latter included “white-washed walls and ceilings adorned with bold floral patterns in cerulean and coral tones, complemented by warm walnut accent walls.”

Those portions that were not redone outright were treated to new paint, covered pillars, and relocated strobe lights. The renovation also extended to the display of new fine art, including works by Thandiwe Muriu and Sarah Anne Johnson, among others.

Working with Dezmotif Studios, MGM incorporated upgrades to the Convention Center’s lighting, signage, and seating areas. All pre-function areas, meeting rooms, and ballrooms were redone.

MGM also installed Cat6A Ethernet cabling throughout the center. According to the company, “This advancement doubles the frequency of data transmission, enabling lightning-fast speeds up to 9,400 percent faster.”

Other technological upgrades included 11 video walls measuring 24 feet by 13 feet and 20 double-sided, mobile, display units to facilitate conventioneers’ navigation from room to room. The video walls will be available for brand placements, sponsorships, and targeted messaging.

RFID-enabled locks were installed on all meeting-room doors in a security precaution. Additionally, 200 motion-detection cameras were installed.

This isn’t the end of the Mandalay Bay makeover. All 424 Four Seasons rooms have been redone and two new restaurants (Orla and Carama) have been added, as will an adult golf bar, Swingers. Bob Marley Hope Road, an immersive attraction, arrives in late 2024.
