Genting UK, one of the largest casino operators in the United Kingdom, has announced its annual results to December 31st 2023 revealing a notable increase in revenue and visitor numbers but declining profits.

Genting UK’s portfolio owns 59 of the 154 operating casino licenses in the UK as of December 31, 2023. Additionally, the group’s assets include the Resorts World Birmingham, a multifaceted entertainment destination comprising a casino, a 182-room hotel and spa, outlet shops, leisure facilities, and a diverse array of bars and restaurants.

The financial year ending on December 31, 2023, saw Genting UK generating a revenue of £287.1 million, a significant increase from the previous year’s £271.6 million. The performance underscores the company’s ability to navigate the challenging conditions, including the ongoing cost-of-living pressures that have impacted customers’ discretionary spending.

However Genting UK’s pre-tax profits experienced a decline, going from £12.3 million in the previous year to £10.3 million in the reporting period. The company’s board attributed this drop to the tightening of the regulatory environment, particularly in relation to customer affordability measures.

Despite the profit decline, Genting UK’s leadership remains optimistic about the company’s performance. The board’s statement highlighted that “customer visits and revenues were all ahead of the prior year across all its operating divisions,” demonstrating the group’s ability to maintain its market position and attract a consistent customer base.

The tightening of the regulatory environment, particularly regarding customer affordability measures, has presented an additional challenge for Genting UK. However, the company’s commitment to compliance and its proactive approach to navigating these changes have enabled it to maintain its operations and continue serving its customer base.
