Lightning Roulette is one of the most exciting games to hit the online casino space in recent years and its creator Evolution is now suing Light & Wonder for allegedly creating “copycat” variants.

The Nevada District Court filing outlines claims that the rival company accessed math files and used the intellectual property (IP) to develop games. Evolution believes people couldn’t otherwise identify the proprietary information simply by playing the games or observing its features.

The origins of the disagreement date back to 2021 after Evolution contacted Light & Wonder, formerly Scientific Games, about potentially making a land-based Lightning Roulette game and shared confidential data during this process.

The talks didn’t make much headway and Light & Wonder went ahead and launched very similar titles called Roulette X and Power X.

The company alleges that Light & Wonder “induced” Evolution into providing trade secrets “under the auspices of entering into a partnership” and instead used the IP to develop identical products that would impact Evolution’s operations.

The Sweden-based company is seeking damages for the financial losses and an injunction to stop something similar from happening again.

This isn’t the first time that Light & Wonder is a defendant in an IP infringement case. In March, Aristocrat claimed that the company’s Jewel of the Dragon slot game is a “cheap knock-off” of Dragon Link.
