Rockford officials are contemplating including Hard Rock Casino in a tax area, which would subject its event tickets to a 5 percent amusement tax in a proposal that aims to boost revenue for the city.

If approved, the tax would apply to concerts, shows and other entertainment at Hard Rock Casino and would go to the Redevelopment Fund, which supports arts and culture throughout the city.

BMO Center and Coronado Performing Arts Center tickets are subject to this 5 percent amusement tax. However, Hard Rock is not included in the special service area downtown where those venues are located. It is being built on the former Clock Tower Resort site at 7801 E. State St. and will span more than 200,000 square feet and will include several restaurants and a concert venue.

Hard Rock Casino in Rockford is set to hold its grand opening ceremony  on Aug. 29, just in time for Labor Day weekend. However, the opening is pending regulatory approval from the Illinois Gaming Board.

The Labor Day opening also will feature performances by Brad Paisley and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan Jett tickets are on sale now, while Brad Paisley tickets will be released on Friday.
