The sports betting sector also contributed significantly, with gross receipts rising 15.2% to $40.9 million and handle increasing by 19.2% to $343.7 million.

Commercial operators in the state contributed $38.8 million in tax and payments to the state, including $37 million for iGaming and $1.8 million for sports betting. Additionally, tribal operators reported making $4.5 million in payments to governing bodies during the month of May.

The growth in online gambling was complemented by a strong performance from Detroit’s three commercial casinos. Revenue for the month of May was 7.2% higher year-over-year, reaching $113.2 million. This included $111.3 million in revenue from table games and slots, a 6.3% increase compared to the previous year. The sports betting segment also contributed, with qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) rising 80.1% to $1.9 million.

Within the Detroit casino market, MGM continued to lead with a 46% market share, followed by MotorCity with 31% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 23%.
