Illinois: Rockford committee backs tax on Hard Rock Live tickets

An amusement tax on tickets sold for ticketed concerts, performances and events at the Hard Rock Casino Rockford’s Live venue was backed Monday by members of the city’s Code & Regulation Committee.

The proposed tax targets tickets sold at the roughly 1,600-seat Hard Rock Live venue by limiting it to venues with a total capacity of at least 750 people and carving out exemptions. Performance and concert tickets would be taxed at 5% while sporting event tickets would be taxed at 3%.

It excludes special service areas where a similar tax is already charged on tickets sold at the BMO Center and the Coronado Performing Arts Center via special service areas.
