Pennsylvania: Rivers Casino Pittsburgh team members to participate in river and trail clean-up efforts

Volunteers from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s Rivers Gives team will spend June 27 doing river and trail remediation.

Between 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Rivers Gives volunteers will help Allegheny CleanWays to remove accumulated debris and polluted recyclables from the Ohio River shoreline and the Heritage Trail that abuts the casino.

Allegheny CleanWays is a nonprofit organization that empowers citizens to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County. The organization has removed more than 5.4 million pounds of debris, 190,000 pounds of metal and recyclables, and 44,000 tires from land and waterways since it was founded in 2000.

“We applaud Rivers Casino’s ongoing commitment to keeping our community clean and environmentally focused,” said ACW Development Director Michelle Lawler in a statement. “We’re always grateful for the volunteers’ time, enthusiasm and energy.”

Volunteer-driven ACW initiatives include: a water-based cleanup program, The Tireless Project; DumpBusters, a weekly land remediation program aimed at eliminating illegal dumpsites; and other outreach events engaging residents and school districts in organized cleanup activities and discussions about environmental impact.

“ACW plays an important role in local environmental efforts, creating innovative solutions to combat pollution throughout the area,” said Rivers Casino Director of Community Relations Rahmon Hart. “As always, we’re enthusiastic about teaming up with ACW to maintain the beauty of our trails and waterways.”
