Caesars Windsor has cut back its single-event wagering operations due to a lack of traffic at the betting windows.

“What they found was not a lot of people were using it outside of peak sporting events,” said Unifor Local 444 president James Stewart, who represents casino workers. “It was just there and they weren’t getting a lot of traffic. So now they’re making adjustments.”

The casino opened Caesars Sportsbook in January 2023, making it the first place in Ontario to offer full-service single-event sports betting after Canada legalized it in 2021.

The ban against betting on single events, except horse racing, had been in place since the Criminal Code was enacted in 1892.
