Maine Sports Betting Handle Hits $39.5 Million In June

Maine’s sports betting industry officially kicked off on November 3, 2023, in the opening month, the market pulled in a respectable $37.6 million in wagers. The following month, in December 2023, the state’s sports betting handle soared to $44.5 million, demonstrating the rapid adoption of this new form of entertainment.

The momentum continued into 2024, with Maine’s sports betting industry maintaining its upward trajectory. In the first three months of the year, the state accumulated a remarkable $71.7 million in wagers, with DraftKings emerging as the dominant operator, contributing over $60 million of the total. Meanwhile, Caesars Sportsbook, the state’s other licensed sportsbook, accounted for a sizable $20 million during the same period.

March 2024 proved to be a historic month for Maine’s sports betting industry, as the state generated a record-high $47.6 million in handle.

Building on the strong performance in the preceding months, June 2024 saw Maine’s sports betting handle reach $39.5 million, a figure nearly identical to the previous month’s $39.8 million.

Maine’s sports betting industry operates under a robust regulatory framework, with the MGCU overseeing the sector’s operations. The state’s tax structure ensures that a portion of the adjusted gross sports wagering receipts is directed towards various funds, including the General Fund, the Gambling Addiction Prevention and Treatment Fund, and the Agricultural Fair Promotion Fund.

Currently, DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook are the two licensed sportsbook operators in Maine. DraftKings has emerged as the market leader.
