SkyCity Entertainment Group, the casino and entertainment company in New Zealand, has found itself at the centre of a regulatory investigation that has led to the suspension of its casino operations in Auckland.

The decision to suspend SkyCity Auckland’s casino operations came after the company received a directive from the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the gaming industry. The DIA’s investigation, which was launched in response to various concerns and allegations, has uncovered potential issues within SkyCity’s operations that warranted immediate action.

The DIA’s probe is said to be examining a range of aspects related to SkyCity’s operations, including compliance with anti-money laundering regulations, responsible gambling practices, and overall governance and management practices. The investigation aims to thoroughly assess the company’s adherence to the relevant laws and regulations governing the gaming industry in New Zealand.

In response to the DIA’s findings and directives, SkyCity has agreed to temporarily suspend its casino operations in Auckland. This move is intended to allow the company to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and implement any necessary changes or improvements to its practices.

SkyCity has acknowledged that the suspension of its Auckland casino operations will result in a substantial financial impact, with estimates suggesting a potential loss of revenue in the range of NZ$30 million to NZ$50 million per month.
