Billy Walters, ‘Spanky’ Look To Give Bettors Seat At The Table

Famous sports bettors Billy Walters and Gadoon “Spanky” Kyrollos have formed a non-profit organization called American Bettors’ Voice (ABV), it was announced Monday.

The duo created the Nevada-based organization in hopes of giving sports bettors “a seat at the table in the rapidly expanding U.S. online sports betting markets.”

Walters and Kyrollos both believe sports bettors deserve to have their voices heard by operators, regulators, and legislators as the country’s mobile betting industry develops.

“At this stage in my life, I am eager to give back to an activity that has given me so much,” Walters said in a press release. “Bettors deserve to be treated fairly, and we at American Bettors‘ Voice are unwavering in our commitment to this cause.”

Kyrollos will serve as the organization’s chairman, while longtime industry professional Richard Schuetz will serve as ABV’s CEO.

The five-person advisory board consists of Brianne Doura-Schawohl, Susan Hensel, Allison McCoy, Brett Smiley, and Eric Raskin. Smiley and Raskin were both formerly employees of Sports Handle’s parent company, Better Collective, and Smiley founded Sports Handle.

ABV’s website shares that it plans to write “position papers” on a number of sports betting topics.

Among the areas ABV plans to write a position paper on is bet limiting and what ABV calls the “ban or bankrupt model.”

Bettors being limited by sports betting apps hasn’t been addressed by many regulators, although the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is in the process of tackling the topic. Operators blew off a roundtable discussion on the topic earlier this year, but they’re expected to join the MGC for discussions in the coming months. Sports bettors were included in the discussion by the MGC.

ABV also wants to look into ways to improve terms and conditions so they’re more standardized across states and more clear to bettors.

“Bettors need a voice, and we intend for these voices to be heard,” Kyrollos said.
