OLG extends Windsor Casino operating agreement

Last week, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced first-quarter (April 1 to June 30) installment payments to 29 Ontario communities that host land-based casino, and Windsor was among those at the top of the payout list at $3,052,259, right up there with Casino Pickering ($5,545,102), Casino Woodbine ($9,292,054), and Niagara Falls ($5,815,447).

Municipalities receive a percentage of casino revenues based on a set formula, so Windsor is one of the highest revenue generators in Ontario. That’s timely, because the OLG is now going through the process of finding the future operator of the Windsor casino.

Yesterday, it was announced that the OLG is exercising its option to further extend its operating agreement with Caesars Entertainment Windsor, the current operator of the casino, for an additional seven months to March 2026.
The OLG’s procurement process will select a service provider to handle the day-to-day gaming operations for the site.

A senior industry source confirmed the players for the license are led by Caesars, Bally’s, and Mohegan. In a statement, OLG said extending the operating agreement will give them sufficient time to complete the procurement process and transition the day-to-day operations to the company that takes the baton, whether that’s Caesars or another operator.

The OLG cannot talk about publicly about the selection process.

According to OLG, Windsor has received over $95 million in payments since the casino opened its doors 30 years ago.
