Interest in mobile sports wagering appears to be on the rise in Nebraska, as Vancouver software company GeoComply reportedly blocked 4.5 million online betting attempts in the state from July 2023 to June 2024, the Lincoln Journal Star  has reported.

“As Nebraska lawmakers consider authorizing mobile sports betting, the @JournalStarNews reports on @geocomply data that shows skyrocketing consumer demand for legal online sports betting. #consumerprotection #taxrevenue,” GeoComply posted to social media platform X.

In the first six months of this year, GeoComply stopped 2 million bets from devices in Nebraska on sites including DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars and FanDuel. The company also detected 64,000 mobile sports betting accounts in the state, a 41 percent increase from the same period last year.

Nebraska has yet to legalize online sports betting, but legislative efforts could position it as the first state to expand its gambling options this year. LB13 and LR3CA would allow for online sportsbooks and daily fantasy sports, provided they partner with a land-based casino or racetrack in the state. Governor Jim Pillen supports the expansion, and a constitutional amendment could appear on the November ballot.

GeoComply is a geolocation compliance provider used by many regulated online sportsbooks and casinos to detect location fraud. The company recently announced that it will take a 40 percent minority stake in Betting Hero in a deal worth $37.5 million.
