Police in Macau have arrested a couple who allegedly murdered a man in a casino hotel room. Authorities discovered the body of a male with links to illegal currency exchange at the Wynn Palace in Cotai.

They also found two knives covered in blood and signs of an attempted cleanup of the crime scene. The victim had extensive injuries, including a fractured skull and a 20cm knife wound to his neck.

won about HK$2.5m (US$320,678) on the day of his death at the casino

The deceased allegedly ran a criminal enterprise from the same hotel room for at least the past six months, and one of the suspects worked for him. He won about HK$2.5m (US$320,678) on the day of his death at the casino and exchanged his chips for cash not long before he met his demise.

The couple includes a 48-year-old Hong Kong woman and a 40-year-old male from mainland China. Police seized HK$1.3m (US$166,752) in cash when arresting the male suspect at his rental apartment in Taipa. They believe that his partner laundered some of the stolen money through casinos and wired it to bank accounts on the mainland.

The pair are now facing charges relating to murder, robbery, and money laundering.
