Kansas regulators are raising concerns about the risks associated with sports betting as the NFL season approaches on September 5, WIBW has reported,

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is urging bettors to be mindful of the potential dangers of gambling addiction, especially with the increasing popularity of online sports betting.

Randy Evans, the KRGC’s Government Relations Manager, emphasized how the convenience of placing bets from home can make it easier for some people to develop problematic gambling behaviors. “With you not having to get in your car and drive to a casino to drive to a sports book, you can just sign up on an app and bet from your couch,” he told WIBW.

For those who recognize that they might have a gambling problem, Evans recommends the voluntary exclusion program, which allows people to block themselves from betting for periods ranging from 90 days to a lifetime.

“People will say, I signed up at FanDuel, but now I’m trying to bet on DraftKings, and I can’t,” Evans said. “So we explained to them, once you sign up for one it’s across the board.”

Kansas legalized sports betting in July 2022. Kansas lawmakers took another step in addressing the risks of sports betting this year, proposing a ban on sports betting advertisements through Senate Bill 432.
