Two years ago, Governor Kim Reynolds signed a two-year moratorium into law restricting any new casinos from being constructed in Iowa. The cap expired at the end of June, leading to Cedar Rapids developers moving forward with applications to Iowa’s Gaming and Racing Commission.

Some republican lawmakers have expressed concerns about new casinos being built in eastern Iowa, citing worries that it could impact revenue at Riverside Casino. They say they’re already considering legislation for next session that would block new casinos being built in the state.

But Kim Reynolds says she will not be weighing in at this time.
