Maine casino revenue falls below $14 million in September

Data from the Maine Gambling Control Unit has revealed that the two land-based casinos in the state combined for almost $13.6 million in revenue in September, a 6.3 percent decrease from the $14.5 million reported in the same month last year.

Revenue also was down 1.1 percent from the $13.7 million collected in August.

Home to 958 slot machines and 23 tables, Oxford Casino contributed the most to the total. Its September revenue reached nearly $8.4 million, including almost $7 million from slots and $1.4 million from tables. Hollywood Casino in Bangor  generated $5.2 million in revenue. $4.3 million of this came from slots, and table games brought in $899,122. Hollywood Casino has 645 slots and 13 tables.

The totals resulted in more than $5 million paid in taxes to the state for the month. Oxford Casino generated $3.4 million and Hollywood Casino contributed more than $1.6 million. These funds support various statewide causes, such as the University of Maine Scholarship Fund and Healthy Maine, as well as the host municipalities – Bangor and Oxford County.
