Colorado casino revenues almost flat year-over-year in September

Colorado casinos collected $94.2 million in adjusted gross proceeds in September, a slight decrease of 0.3 percent from September 2023, the Colorado Department of Revenue has reported.

While casinos in Black Hawk and Central City struggled with AGP decreases at 2.4 percent and 6 percent, respectively, Cripple Creek casinos brought in 12.8 percent more in revenues compared to September 2023. Considering Black Hawk’s dominance of the state-wide total AGP, accounting for 75 percent, the growth in Cripple Creek wasn’t enough to offset losses elsewhere.

One type of gaming that performed poorly across Colorado was slots, with almost every type of denomination seeing a drop in revenues. The only exception was $2 slot machines, which posted an outlier revenue increase of 2,206.6 percent year-on-year, but this was primarily because of an extremely poor showing in September 2023.

The most significant slot contributor to state-wide AGP, $0.01 slots, saw revenues fall by more than 22 percent. The $25.1 million collected by these games covered over 68 percent of AGP from slot games. Every other slot denomination posted revenue drops above 10 percent, with the most considerable decrease hitting $0.10 games, which generated more 44 percent less year-on-year.
