Tipster shuts down

Oddschecker’s sponsored tipster, The Betting Professor, has stopped offering the service after several months of severe losses.

The service launched with two free months when the partnership began in August, after which it was only available for £19.99 ($25.75) per month subscribers to Oddschecker Unlimited, the site’s premium service.

the account was down enormous amounts in the first few months of its operation

After a rough start in which the account was down enormous amounts in the first few months of its operation, it seems that Oddschecker has decided to call it quits, ending the paid tips service.

Losing streak

The Betting Professor was billed as an anonymous professional gambler who had racked up previous winnings of over £20 million ($13m) before the partnership with Oddschecker was unveiled in August 2024.

social media posts boasted of individual wins, ignoring the rapidly-increasing total losses

The launch of the partnership was controversial from the start, with no verification of the bold claims of tens of millions of pounds in profit. From the beginning of the service, there was no tracking of running profitability as social media posts boasted of individual wins, ignoring the rapidly-increasing total losses the strategy was incurring.

The service was also criticized for offering no guidance on bankroll management, leading to increased risks for any punters opting to blindly follow the tips.

There were also questions over whether it was realistic to place bets at many of the prices advertised. Prices bounced around from bookmaker to bookmaker with little rhyme or reason, frequently without being at the top price available.

Professor loses tenure

Eventually, a running tally of results was recorded on the site, albeit with some occasional errors. On September 30, the tipster’s official X account posted a staggering loss of -92.70 points.

at one point, the total profit and loss was 170 points down

Things would eventually go from bad to worse from there. At one point, the total profit and loss was 170 points down, enough to drain the bankroll of all but the most conservative gambler.

While the sample size is not enormous, it appears that the rapid losses over a short period have caused Oddschecker to finally pull the plug on the service. Posting on X, The Betting Professor commented: “Whilst we’re confident that the content would still be profitable in the long term, we’ve listened carefully to the feedback – particularly concerning the volume of bets and stakes making it unattainable for the average customer.

“With that in mind, we have decided that it is to our customers benefit for us to focus on other areas to continue to drive new, innovative and profitable content offerings as we head into 2025. We are as committed as ever to delivering on this promise.“

The Betting Professor will still provide tips on Oddschecker, although they will be far less frequent and available for free.
