In October, the total GGR for the state of Nevada reached approximately $1.28 billion, reflecting a slight year-over-year decline of just over 2%. However, the Las Vegas Strip’s performance was particularly striking, with a total GGR of $692 million. This figure not only represents a 3% drop compared to the previous year but also highlights a troubling pattern as the Strip grapples with ongoing revenue challenges.

The Las Vegas Strip has now experienced four consecutive months of year-over-year revenue declines, the Strip has recorded a decline of more than 6% in GGR.

The revenue breakdown for October reveals a mixed performance between slot machines and table games. Slot machine revenue saw a modest increase of 5.5%, totalling $428.3 million. In contrast, table games faced significant challenges, with a decline of 14.5%. Notably, baccarat suffered a 23.4% decrease, bringing in only $68.7 million for the month. This downturn in baccarat revenue, coupled with a 33% drop over the last three months.

While the Las Vegas Strip struggled, Downtown Las Vegas experienced its own challenges. The GGR for Downtown reached $86.8 million, representing an 11% decline from the previous year. Despite this downturn, the market has managed to maintain a 4% increase in GGR year-to-date.

The performance of other nearby markets also reflected a trend of decline. North Las Vegas reported a decrease of 3.7%, while Laughlin and the Boulder Strip saw declines of 6.8% and 2.6%, respectively.

While the southern markets faced challenges, the northern regions of Nevada did not fare much better in October. The overall performance of these markets was mixed, with South Lake Tahoe standing out as an exception. With a GGR of $20.8 million, South Lake Tahoe recorded the largest increase among the markets tracked by the NGCB, boasting an 18.7% rise.

In contrast, Washoe County experienced declines across the board. Reno, in particular, reported a 3% decrease in GGR, totaling $68.1 million. Despite this downturn, the Reno market remains relatively stable year-to-date. The Carson Valley also exhibited flat performance, with slight increases of 1.8% for the month and 1.1% for the fiscal year-to-date.

To the northeast, Elko County faced its own challenges, reporting a GGR of $31.7 million, which represented a year-over-year decrease of 6.4%.

Overview of Sports Betting Trends

In addition to the declines in traditional gaming revenue, Nevada’s sports betting also experienced significant challenges in October. The statewide sports betting GGR amounted to $28.9 million, reflecting a staggering 57.5% drop from the previous year.

Mobile betting, a segment that has gained traction in recent years, also faced declines. The GGR from mobile betting reached $18.7 million, representing a 46.4% decrease year-over-year. The Las Vegas Strip’s sports betting GGR was recorded at $13.3 million, down 50% from the previous year.
