A man has filed a lawsuit against the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas after allegedly suffering an electric shock in his hotel room in November 2023 that led to significant health issues. David Van Horn claims the property failed to properly maintain the rooms, which he labels a breach of duty and negligent.

The Michigan native says that a faulty lamp gave him an electric shock when he tried turning it on, leading to a traumatic brain injury, severe pain, long-term headaches, and triggering his previous post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The complaint outlines how he was “suddenly and violently thrown, striking his head, knocking over a nearby chair, and falling to the floor” during the incident.

He said the incident caused him to retire from teaching four years before becoming eligible for a pension because of hearing problems, dizziness, and stuttering.

The former teacher wants damages from the MGM Resorts International-owned casino, including money to cover his loss of earnings and medical bills. Van Horn claims that the property should have known about the electrocution risk and either resolved the matter or warned guests.
