Philippines Records 1,900 Reports in Q1, Inter-Agency Task Force Launches "Total Web Cleanup"
Southeast Asia · 2026-03-18

The Philippine government's campaign against illegal online gambling has officially transitioned from policy rhetoric to full-scale enforcement.

According to the latest data from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), a total of 1,892 complaints involving unauthorized online gaming, illegal offshore operations, and related cybercrimes were filed in the first quarter of 2026 alone. This surge in public reporting has catalyzed a powerful inter-agency coalition—including the CICC, PAOCC, PAGCOR, and the PNP—to launch a sweeping crackdown dubbed "Total Web Cleanup."

The cornerstone of this joint operation is the integration of advanced digital forensics with real-time site blocking. Under the new cooperative framework, the CICC will provide the PAOCC with specialized technical support to harvest server data and track illicit financial flows, providing irrefutable evidence for prosecution. Simultaneously, enforcement teams will work with ISPs to block access to illegal gambling websites and promotional content based on regulatory data provided by PAGCOR and PAOCC, effectively severing their operational pipelines.

Authorities noted that while digital transformation has fueled economic growth, it has also been weaponized by criminal syndicates to build sophisticated illicit networks. These platforms do more than just evade taxes; they are often linked to money laundering, telecom fraud, and organized crime, undermining public trust in digital services. This nationwide crackdown underscores the government's unwavering commitment to sanitizing the industry, ensuring public safety, and upholding the integrity of the nation's digital space.
