The 54th annual World Series of Poker concludes after record main event

The tournament saw the largest WSOP Main Event entrant field yet.

US.- The 54th annual World Series of Poker has concluded after eight weeks at the Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe Las Vegas. The event saw the largest Main Event entrant field in WSOP history.

The 2023 WSOP live bracelet events saw 214,641 entries from over 114 countries. It registered a record-breaking $402,808,892 total prize pool, eclipsing the last year’s record of $347,941,800 set. The Main Event attracted 10,043 entrants, breaking the previous record of 8,773. It had a $93,339,900 prize pool,the biggest in poker history.

The tournament broke attendance records in more than 10 events including the Main Event, High Roller 8-Handed, Razz, Monster Stack NLHE and Seniors Event. Some 36 players won more than $1m.

Daniel Weinman won the Main Event, making him the first American to take the World Champion title since 2018. Celebrities such as chef & restaurateur Guy Fieri, WNBA All-Star Guard Kelsey Plum, boxing champion Ryan Garcia, and former soccer star Sergio Agüero, participated in the event.

WSOP senior vice president and executive director, Ty Stewart, said: “Poker is back, and it never went anywhere. Establishing records all summer long and crossing the unthinkable 10,000 entry mark is huge not just for the WSOP but for the game itself. We look forward to continuing the momentum through the rest of the year with WSOP Circuit Events, WSOP Europe and the new WSOP Paradise. Of course, it’s never too early to plan your trip for 2024.”

Nevada gaming revenue reaches $1.28bn in May

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has reported that the state’s casinos generated $1.28bn in gaming revenue in May. That’s a decrease of 0.8 per cent year-on-year.

The Las Vegas Strip generated $715.9m, down 2.1 per cent year-on-year. Clark County as a whole, which includes the Strip, downtown Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, the Boulder Strip and surrounding areas, generated $1.1bn, a 1 per cent decrease. Washoe County, which includes casinos in Reno, Sparks, and North Lake Tahoe, saw revenue increase 3.7 per cent year-on-year.
