Pennsylvania’s gaming industry has surpassed expectations by setting a new revenue record for the third year in a row. In July, gaming venues in the state generated an impressive $467 million, an 8.85% increase compared to the same period last year.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National led the way in terms of revenue, earning $70 million, a 25.62% increase from July 2022. Parx Casino, Valley Forge Casino Resort, Wind Creek Bethlehem, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia followed closely behind, completing the top five revenue-generating establishments in the state. Together, these venues have contributed to the thriving gaming industry, which has amassed over $3.36 billion in the first seven months of 2023, an 11% increase from the previous year.

Retail slots continue to be the main driver of revenue, generating $214.6 million in July. The enduring popularity of this classic form of gaming is evident. In the realm of online gaming, Hollywood Casino at Penn National took the lead, contributing $54.3 million to the statewide revenue of $132.8 million.

Sports betting has also played a significant role in the industry’s success, with the monthly statewide handle reaching $338.4 million. Valley Forge Casino Resort stood out with the highest handle for sports betting in July, amounting to $127.6 million.

Revenue from iGaming tables saw a remarkable 48% increase from July 2022, reaching $35.3 million. This surge highlights the rising popularity of online table games among Pennsylvania players. Additionally, iGaming slot revenue saw a significant boost, with a 31.91% increase year-over-year, reaching $94.8 million.

While there were a few areas that experienced a decline in revenue, such as Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) and fantasy contests, the overall gaming industry in Pennsylvania remains on an upward trajectory. In July alone, the total tax revenue generated from gaming and fantasy contests reached an impressive $192.04 million.

Looking ahead, the future looks promising for the Pennsylvania gaming industry. With the expansion of online gaming and the growing popularity of sports betting, the industry is poised to continue breaking revenue records in the years to come say supporters.
