Florida Sports Betting Delayed But For How Long?

Back in May 2021 many Florida residents believed that sports betting in the state was at last here to stay following the compact agreement between governor Ron DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe of Florida that allowed the tribe to exclusively operate sports betting in the state.

However shortly after its launch sports betting shut down because of legal action brought by Magic City Casino in Miami and the Bonita Springs Poker Room against the compact saying it breached tribal governance.

Ever since the argument has raged in court rooms and the latest is that Chief Justice John Roberts has issued a stay against launching sports betting again but only until the 18^th October.

This is until the full court of appeals hears the case and makes a final decision, the judge said that this ruling “doesn’t indicate which way the Supreme Court may ultimately rule.”

As reported previously by the iGaming Post the legal fight over sports betting in Florida will continue well into 2024, until all legal avenues have been exhausted.

At present thou it does look like the Seminole Tribe will ultimately succeed in operating sports betting as the number of court victories at present are in their favour and the group opposing them look like they are just delaying the inevitable.
