7月27日，据德新社援引俄新社报道称，伊朗副外长迈赫迪·萨法里27日宣布，俄罗斯MIR支付系统将被引入伊朗。
报道称，伊朗和俄罗斯基本上被国际制裁排除在国际支付交易之外。希望在伊朗投资的外国人前往伊朗时经常不得不随身携带大量现金。
报道称，许多俄罗斯金融机构如今被排除在环球银行间金融通信协会（SWIFT）之外。由于围绕伊核计划的争端，伊朗也遭到制裁，受到类似影响。
据报道，俄罗斯总统普京前不久刚刚访问伊朗。伊朗最高领袖哈梅内伊当时强调，伊朗和俄罗斯需要共同抵御西方制裁。哈梅内伊还呼吁削弱美元作为国际货币的地位。
