The Swedish government-owned gaming company Svenska Spel has made it known that Anna Johnson will take over as CEO in a calculated move from outgoing CEO Patrik Hofbauer. The news is made when Hofbauer leaves the corporation to pursue other ventures, making room for Johnson to assume the position.

As announced by the former Swedish monopoly, Anna Johnson will become the President and CEO of Svenska Spel, effective June 20, 2024. The new CEO has a strong professional background as a certified accountant and a master’s degree in economics from Mitthögskolan in Östersund.

Currently employed at the multinational accounting and consulting business Grant Thornton, Johnson is 50 years old and works as both CEO and a partner. She heads the agency for seven years, and in her new position at Svenska Spel, she will offer a lot of accounting and business leadership knowledge.

Succession Plans and Interim Leadership

On February 1, 2024, Patrik Hofbauer, the departing CEO of Svenska Spel, will formally quit the company to start a new chapter with the massive Swedish telecom company Telia Company. Erik Strand, the chair of Svenska Spel’s board, will serve as acting CEO in the interim until Johnson takes over.

Erik Strand praised Johnson’s track record of accomplishment and her capacity to spur profitable expansion, expressing confidence in her leadership. He emphasized her synergy with Svenska Spel’s goal and her ability to create value for customers while establishing great teams.
