The West Virginia Lottery reported an all-time monthly high for internet casino revenue in March, topping $20 million for the first time.

Operators reported close to $24 million in revenue for March, an 87.1% increase year-over-year. It shattered the previous record of $18.2 million established last December and marked only the third time since launch in July 2020 that it surpassed $15 million.

Drop reached an all-time high of $567.1 million, up 57% from March 2023, crossing the half-billion dollar mark for the second time in state history. That previous high for online casino wagering also was set last December at $501.2 million.

The state netted $3.1 million in taxes after a 15% administrative fee, lifting the total for the first quarter of the year to nearly $7 million. West Virginia received almost $20 million in state taxes from internet casino gaming for all of 2023.

Hollywood Charles Town Narrowly Misses $10 Million Revenue Benchmark

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town set an all-time high for monthly revenue by an operator, coming within $42,000 of $10 million. The tether to DraftKings and Fanatics Casino, March’s revenue total was up 89.6% from 12 months prior and blew past the previous standard of $6.7 million set in April 2023.

It was the fourth consecutive month Charles Town topped $6 million in revenue. The $233.7 million drop was also an all-time high, eclipsing the $217.3 million wagered last December.

The Greenbrier, which held the previous state high of $7.9 million set last December, was a close second with its all-time best of $9.3 million. The combined action from the online casinos of FanDuel, Golden Nugget and BetMGM topped $200 million for the first time as the March drop reached $223.8 million.

Mountaineer Casino, home to BetRivers and Caesars Palace Online, also set an all-time revenue high at $3.9 million — more than double its $1.9 million haul from March 2023.

The $89.9 million drop slotted second all-time behind the $109 million generated last October and was also more than double the action from 12 months prior.

Mardi Gras Casino’s first year with an online presence continued to progress well as March’s total of $846,411 in revenue was an all-time high in 10 months since launching last June. The $19.8 million wagered was also an all-time monthly high, topping the $17.5 million set last December.

The Betly online casino platform has yet to notch a seven-figure monthly revenue total, but March marked the first time it surpassed $500,000 in back-to-back months.
