Washington D.C. sports bettors are without any legally accessible mobile betting apps, at least for a short period in July.

FanDuel confirmed with Sports Handle a Washington Post report that said it stopped accepting online bets Tuesday as it awaits approval of the FY 2025 budget, which allows for the continuation of sports betting in the District.

As a result, D.C. sports bettors will be relegated to placing in-person sports bets until Mayor Muriel Bowser approves the budget. Bowser has until July 25 to sign the budget.

Once approved, FanDuel will resume online operations.

“Upon final approval of the FY 2025 DC Budget, FanDuel will resume its sports betting offering as a Class A operator in partnership with DC United at Audi Field and continue to offer our citywide mobile app to the District of Columbia,” a FanDuel spokesperson told Sports Handle.

Additionally, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook both have plans to launch across the District shortly after Bowser approves the budget. Both apps planned to launch Monday but were forced to delay those plans due to Bowser’s delay in signing the budget.

BetMGM, Caesars, and FanDuel all have retail sportsbooks accepting wagers at this time. However, the strange logistical delay leaves bettors without any legal betting apps across the District for the moment.
