Ohio’s casinos and racinos combined for less gambling revenue in September than August but had a nice bump in year-over-year comparisons to September 2022.

The casinos’ slots and table games and the video lottery terminals at racetracks totaled $191.9 million from players in September, based on monthly reports from the Ohio Casino Control Commission and Ohio Lottery. That represented a 1.5% decline from August, but a 1.7% increase from a year ago.

The four casinos made $83.1 million in September, which was a 0.9% boost from August and 2.1% more than in September 2022.

The seven racinos earned gaming revenue of $108.8 million, which was 3.3% less than in August but up 1.5% year-over-year.

Two Hollywood Casinos made out well

Among the casinos, Hollywood Casino Columbus had a particularly strong September. Its $22.6 million was the highest revenue in the state and an increase both of 2.2% from August and 1.6% from September 2022.

While Hollywood Casino Toledo’s $18.4 million was only slightly above August’s revenue, its 7.2% increase from the prior September was the largest of any of Ohio’s gaming venues.

Conversely, Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati $20.2 million was barely above September 2022 but 2.8% higher than in August.

JACK Cleveland suffered the worst revenue month, comparatively, among the four casinos, with its $22 million off 1.5% from August and basically the same year-over-year.

MGM Northfield drags down racino numbers

Among the racinos, three saw improvements in their VGT revenue from both the prior month and prior year. The sector’s overall decrease from August was due almost entirely to a drop-off in play at MGM Northfield Park.

The site in suburban Cleveland remained the biggest revenue earner, at $22.8 million, but that was a notable 12.2% below August and 3.6% below September 2022.

On the positive side, Miami Valley Gaming’s $19.4 million was both 1.7% better than August and 3.2% better than September 2022.

Belterra Park’s $6.9 million was 5.2% more than a year earlier, though just 0.1% more than in August.

Similarly, JACK Thistledown’s $15.4 million was 2.8% better than 2022 but only 0.1% better than what it reaped in August.

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley wasn’t much different, with its $13.2 million about the same as the month before but 1.5% higher than the year before.

Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs made $18.2 million, a slight increase over 2022 while 1.3% less than in August.

Lastly, while Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway’s $12.9 million was 7.1% more than the prior September, it was 5% less than August’s revenue.
