FanDuel will bring its sports betting app to North Carolina in 2024 through an agreement with the PGA Tour, Sports Handle confirmed Thursday. The news was first reported by Sports Business Journal. 

Mobile operators in the Tar Heel State need partnerships with professional sports franchises, venues, or leagues to gain access to the state’s upcoming mobile wagering market. FanDuel is an official betting partner of the PGA Tour, and the agreement to help FanDuel gain North Carolina mobile market access is a natural result of that existing relationship. 

“We have a great relationship with the Tour and we have every intention of continuing that,” Christian Genetski, president of FanDuel, told SBJ. “Building off an existing partner made it a pretty easy conversation to get to the parameters of a deal that we were very comfortable with.” 

FanDuel joins bet365 and ESPN BET as operators to announce North Carolina sports betting access partnerships. 

Last month, bet365 announced it would partner with the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets to gain market access into the state. ESPN BET announced earlier this week that it would partner with Quail Hollow Club, a PGA Tour venue. 

Other major operators such as BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and Fanatics Sportsbook are expected to be among those that also go live with sports betting sites in North Carolina in 2024. 

While there is no official start date for mobile sportsbooks in the Tar Heel State, the state’s lottery said a launch will occur sometime after the Super Bowl in February. The state’s law mandates the mobile market be up and running by mid-June at the latest. 

The PGA Tour hosts a pair of 2024 events in North Carolina. The first comes in May when the Wells Fargo Championship comes to the Quail Hollow Club. In August, the Wyndham Championship will take place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. 

Legal mobile wagering in the state should be operational ahead of the Wyndham Championship, and it’s possible the launch comes before the Wells Fargo Championship.
