Colorado’s sports betting industry in October accepted a staggering $554.8 million in bets, representing an 8% increase from the previous month.

One of the key factors contributing to the success of Colorado’s sports betting industry is the proliferation of online betting platforms. In October, the vast majority of bets were placed online, accounting for a significant portion of the state’s tax revenue. This shift towards online betting has been advantageous for both bettors and operators, providing a convenient and accessible platform for placing wagers.

Despite the overall success of online betting, retail sportsbooks have struggled to turn a profit. In October, brick-and-mortar locations in Colorado faced losses, with a net loss of approximately $100,000. These retail books experienced losses across various sports, including football, baseball, tennis, table tennis, golf, and MMA. However, they managed to offset some of these losses by winning $130,000 from parlays, which constituted more than 20% of all bets placed at retail locations.

Football remains the most popular sport for Colorado bettors, with a significant portion of wagers placed on professional football. In October, professional football accounted for 33.4% of all sports betting wagers, marking an increase from the previous month. College football also garnered attention, although to a lesser extent, with 9.3% of all bets placed on college games. The popularity of football among bettors demonstrates the enduring appeal of the sport and its ability to attract a significant betting volume.

Basketball emerged as the second most popular sport for Colorado bettors, capturing 11.4% of all sports betting wagers in October. The sport’s popularity can be attributed to both the professional and college leagues, with basketball enthusiasts placing bets on NBA and NCAA games. While football and basketball dominate the Colorado sports betting landscape, other sports such as baseball, tennis, and golf also attract a considerable number of bets.

Colorado’s sports betting industry has not only provided entertainment for bettors but has also had a positive economic impact on the state. In October alone, the state generated $3.3 million in tax revenue from operators, representing a 7% increase from the previous month. Compared to the same period in the previous year, Colorado experienced a substantial 44% jump in tax revenue.

The tax revenue generated from sports betting has been allocated to various sectors, including education, infrastructure, and public services. This additional funding has helped support important initiatives and projects, benefiting the state and its residents.
