Record December Caps A Record Year For Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Thursday released its 2023 revenue report, which revealed a 27.7% increase in online gaming revenue compared to 2022. The $5.7 billion in combined annual revenue is a record high for the state, which offers casino apps, fantasy sports contests, online poker, and sports betting, as well as video gaming terminals.

December capped the record-breaking year with all-time highs of its own for overall gaming revenue and online casino revenue, according to the monthly report. According to the PGCB, annual revenue was 9.3% higher than in 2022, and the state took in a total of $2.3 billion in tax revenue for 2023.

For December 2023, Pennsylvania gaming entities set a revenue record, taking in $534 million in revenue. This broke the previous record of $515.3 million set in March 2023. Those numbers include traditional and iCasino, in-person and digital sports betting, fantasy sports contests, and online poker.

Online casinos took in $165 million, according to the PCGB press release. The next closest revenue month was September 2023, when casinos brought in $159 million in revenue.
