Premier League Transfer Deadline Day: Sales Every Team Should Make

Transfer deadline day is almost upon us, and VSO News has listed a player every EPL team should rid itself of. [Image: Shutterstock.com]

The transfer window is one of the most chaotic times in the world of soccer, especially in the English Premier League (EPL). The league’s rosters are about to be locked in until the summer as the January transfer period closes on Thursday night.

instantly secure a bit of additional cash while getting someone off the payroll

Teams are always thinking about what they can do to get ahead, and for some, that may include selling instead of buying. Offloading some dead weight is a great way for a team to instantly secure a bit of additional cash while getting someone off the payroll.

As the EPL gears up for transfer deadline day, VegasSlotsOnline News has compiled a list of one player EVERY team needs to SELL as soon as possible, whether it is in this transfer window or in the summer.

The potential sales

Arsenal – Oleksandr Zinchenko

Zinchenko is an asset in a free-flowing system in which defenders move into the midfield and attack, but he’s also a liability because of his lack of discipline and tendency to freelance. Arsenal is now a perennial title challenge and doesn’t need to sacrifice defensive solidarity and risk unwarranted losses based on individual errors.

He recently told The Athletic he is not pleased with his performances this season:

Aston Villa – Bertrand Traore

Traore has only made two appearances in the Premier League so far and didn’t score in either of them. He’s one of Villa’s lowest-graded players and doesn’t have a feasible path into the starting XI.

Brentford – Ivan Toney

Toney has long been rumored to be on his way out and would undoubtedly bring Brentford a record sum for his services. Although the fans welcomed him back from his gambling suspension with open arms, he feels slightly estranged and as if he should be at a club in a better position to challenge for silverware.

Brighton and Hove Albion – Tariq Lamptey

Lamptey is still 23 but hasn’t matured and fulfilled the potential young stars often have. He’s been placed on the bench behind an out-of-position James Milner and doesn’t seem to be a favorite of Robert De Zerbi.

Bournemouth – Chris Mepham

Mepham is the lowest-grade outfield player at Bournemouth according to Whoscored’s player ratings. He only has three appearances but could still fetch a decent fee because of his age (26).

Burnley – Jay Rodriguez

Rodriguez, 33, has scored just twice in 16 league appearances. He’s clearly behind a much more youthful Zeki Amdouni and has also fallen behind Lyle Foster. He’ll probably want to go somewhere he can get more regular playing time.

Chelsea – Mykhailo Mudryk

Mudryk is as raw as raw gets. He has blistering pace but fails to utilize that in ways that trouble defenders and too often is not involved in matches or makes amateurish mistakes. The Blues paid $76m for the 23-year-old and could use him to help fund the purchase of Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who has +550 odds to go to either Chelsea or Arsenal (potentially in the next transfer window).

Crystal Palace – Michael Olise

Olise is an exciting young prospect who can draw a lot of money from a top club. He signed a new deal with Crystal Palace last summer but has drawn the interest of many contenders, and it’s unlikely Palace will hold him again after scaring off Chelsea last year.

Everton – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin is sixth in big chances missed (10) despite playing for an Everton side that doesn’t create a ton of chances to begin with. He’s a constant injury risk and seems to have left his best days behind him at just 26.

Fulham – Adama Traore

The Traore transfer in the last EPL window was muddied by injuries and a lack of fitness and form, and the Spaniard has appeared in just 40 minutes of EPL action this season. Fulham also has a nice frontline rotation with Harry Wilson, Willian, Bobby De-Cordov Reid, and Carlos Vinicius. Game time could be hard to come by in the future for Traore.

Liverpool – Diogo Jota

Jürgen Klopp announcing his intent to leave at the end of the season means that the logjam of attackers should eventually be clearer (mostly since the next manager likely won’t throw so many of them on the pitch at the same time). With Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo locking down the center and Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz on the flanks, Jota could opt for greener pastures and also command a sizable fee if he didn’t want to wait until the end of the season to make his exit.

However, Klopp has made clear that his players love being at the club and his exit will not have an impact on contracts:

Luton Town – Carlton Morris

Morris has lost more aerial duels than everyone in the EPL this season and scored four goals in 23 appearances across all competitions. Luton already has Elijah Adebayo, who scored five goals in about 400 fewer minutes, and could even look to buy a new frontman if they survive relegation (-200 odds of relegation).

Manchester City – Kalvin Phillips

Phillips was out of favor from the moment he joined Man City and should finally find his way out. He still looks like a solid player and can do a job at his next team if he can just get onto the pitch. He is now on loan with West Ham but Man City should do him a favor and cut him loose completely.

Manchester United – Antony

The Brazilian winger has scored eight goals and bagged three assists in 66 appearances for Man U, a return of one goal contribution every six appearances. He is a constant liability on the right side and offers next to nothing in the final third, making him an enormous disappointment for a $109m signing.

Newcastle United – Miguel Almiron

Almiron had an incredible run last year but has regressed to a modest seven goal contributions in 31 appearances across all competitions this time around. Transfermarkt estimates his value to be $33m, which would be worth the loss in the next EPL transfer window if Newcastle can bring in someone younger than the 29-year-old as the new ownership continues to refurbish the squad.

Nottingham Forest – Divock Origi

Origi has not scored in nine appearances and is well behind Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood in the pecking order at Nottingham Forest. He’ll forever be a cult hero at Liverpool for his UEFA Champions League heroics, but he can’t say the same at his current club.

Sheffield United – Wes Foderingham

Poor defensive records aren’t always the fault of the goalkeeper and can instead be due to bad play from the defenders and midfielders. That said, Foderingham leads the EPL in errors leading to a goal (five, two more than second place) for a Sheffield team that conceded nine more goals than the team with the second-worst defense.

Head coach Chris Wilder said he could still leave this window:

Tottenham – Emerson Royal

The emergence of Pedro Porro has made Emerson expendable. He has a market value of nearly $20m and could be sold to help fund a new wave of replacements following the excellent business Ange Postecoglou and company did last summer.

West Ham – Michail Antonio

West Ham has struggled for goals from their center forward for long enough. Jarrod Bowen is continuing to deliver, but Antonio has just seven goals in the last two seasons (spanning 45 matches) and is just about out of chances.

Wolves – Matt Doherty

Wolves have a conundrum on the front line—they have talented attackers but also struggle to score goals, which could be reflective of a more systemic issue. Doherty ended up on our list because his age profile doesn’t fit a team in need of a breath of fresh air and he only managed two starts this season.
