FanDuel’s commitment to sports betting in Washington D.C. grew Thursday.

Sports & Social DC officially opened its new FanDuel sports betting experience Thursday morning with several local celebrities on hand to place the first bets. The sports bar, which is in a prime location on U Street, now has FanDuel kiosks in its establishment, giving customers a chance to legally wager.

The opening expands FanDuel’s retail sports betting footprint in Washington D.C. FanDuel also operates a retail sportsbook at Audi Field, a professional soccer venue.

FanDuel’s connection with Sports & Social is a familiar one, as there are also FanDuel kiosks at a location in North Bethesda, Maryland. Sports & Social is operated by a division of the Cordish Companies.

“Our partnership with FanDuel has resulted in the opening of several sportsbooks around the country and the expansion of the Sports & Social brand, which brings guests together in an environment that fosters true fandom,” Suzanne Trout, executive vice president and chief marketing office of the Cordish Gaming Group, said in a press release. “This opening is timed perfectly with March Madness, and we look forward to the fierce competition we expect to see from college basketball fans as the tournament heats up.”

Although the well-known operator doesn’t currently have an online sports betting presence in the District, that’s expected to change in the near future.

The D.C. Lottery wants FanDuel to take over for GambetDC as the District’s primary sports betting app. D.C. council member Kenyan McDuffie isn’t sold on that plan, but is proposing a new online sports betting system that includes access for FanDuel.

McDuffie’s proposal could allow BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and FanDuel to begin accepting mobile wagers in the coming months. Regardless of whether McDuffie’s proposal or the lottery’s moves forward, FanDuel seems entrenched in the future of online sports betting in Washington D.C.

It’s possible that by as early as this summer, FanDuel will become the most widely accessible betting operator in Washington D.C.

Grand Central also officially opened a second sportsbook location in D.C. on Thursday. The second location is on H Street, while the original sports betting location sits in Adams Morgan. Grand Central’s sports betting kiosks are provided by Elys Game Technology.

The H Street location also features assorted snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and Tissy Sweets Bakery and Cafe.
