The hope in Alabama for regulated sports betting have been dashed for the year 2024. Despite initial optimism, House Bill 151 and House Bill 152, which included provisions for sports betting and table games, were recently amended and approved by the Alabama House of Representatives, excluding the authorization of these forms of gambling. These bills initially included language that would have allowed for sports betting and non-tribal retail casinos. A recent Senate test vote fell just short of the 21 votes required for approval, and a conference committee has proposed a gaming compact to be negotiated between Governor Kay Ivey and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
